Its thanksgiving weekend and I won’t let it pass without sending a heartfelt wish to everyone celebrating out there especially my readers. Thanksgiving Day is officially celebrated in the United States of America and Canada. It’s a day where family all over the country gather to celebrate the goodness of God for those who believe and for those others- it’s a family tradition handed down from ages past. And for those living where there is no official thanksgiving day, know that every day is a day to be thankful for life, thankful for health, thankful for family, for friends or just thankful for life.
I have these three W’s of why I’m thankful towards every situation in my life:
When
Be thankful at all times, be it in the morning, afternoon or evening. It’s totally wrong to be a grouch when things aren’t going your way. Like me when I’m upset, I don’t want anybody talking to me, touching me or even being near me; just leave me the hell alone. In fact, I use to hate people, but that’s a great flaw and I’m working hard to fix it. But being thankful is not being an ostrich, who refuses to see the reality of a situation on ground. It’s being thankful for everything in your life, whether in the good time or bad time. Be thankful every minute, every second and every hour. Easier said than done, I know, but it takes work and determination to just do this.
Mother Theresa says “The best way to show my gratitude is to accept everything, even my problems with joy”.
What
Okay, I hear the questions asked, how I’m I supposed to be thankful every day but for what? The answer is everything, be it the little blessings, the disappointments, the glad times, sad times, hard times, happy times, delightful and discouraging times. In every situation that comes into your life, be thankful, as it could have been worse. Yes, the fact remains that we are human and it is not easy to be constantly upbeat at all times but how about we just try as every trials, heartache and disappointment is a stepping stone for something greater. Give thanks for even the bad situation as God has a backup plan for every situation.
“Gratitude should not just be a reaction to getting what you want, but an all the time gratitude, the kind where you notice the little things where you constantly look for the good, even in unpleasant situations. Start bringing gratitude to your experiences, instead of waiting for a positive experience in order to feel grateful” Marelisa Fabrega
Who
Be thankful to God. He alone is the one that deserves all our thankfulness. You can’t give thanks only when you are in good health. No one likes bad things to happen to them so there’s a tendency for us to pout. But we are to be thankful in all things by submitting to God as He alone has a better plan for us. He works all things out at His time even though it may hurt, may suck the life out of you if you let it. But God has a purpose for everything in your life to be thankful. Whether you win or you lose or you are the hero or the zero, give thanks to your maker.
Why
You need to recognize the higher power that has provided you with all this, knowing that it is not by your power or might that every good thing or even the bad came to be. So you need to have a personal relationship with your creator to know the why of thanksgiving and for it to be meaningful enough for you.
For me, apart from my family, friends and life, I’m thankful for the readers and followers of this blog. By now we’ve grown together to be more like a family and I’m happy and thankful about that. As at last count 170+ followers and that’s no mean feat in this competitive blogosphere. So I say thank you once again and God bless.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
I wholeheartedly agree. Gratitude is an attitude. We can use it every hour of every day for everything we have in this life!
Smiles and hugs,
Trish

“When I’m upset, I don’t want anybody talking to me, touching me or even being near me; just leave me the hell alone.” – I can relate to this so much! And I’m also working on trying to find something to be grateful for, even when I’m having a sudden wave of negativity. But as you said, easier said than done..

I think we an all practice gratitude – not just in times of good health – as you rightly said. Sometimes it helps to be thankful of some of the bad stuff because they tend to be blessings in disguise.
